We recently traveled to Arizona and tried all the Antelope Canyon tours over a week, and I would say our favorite was The Antelope Canyon x! Here is our full report of the visit.
If you haven’t heard of Antelope Canyon, it is undoubtedly the most famous and beautiful Slot Canyon in the United States, with its colorful walls, narrow passages and spectacular rays of light that strike through the ceiling.
However, the Antelope Canyon x tours explore a new section of the canyon that has only been open to the public for a few years, so it is much less crowded and touristy compared to the main Canyon, which is already very popular.
Like the main canyons, Antelope X is located in the Navajo Nation, so unfortunately, the visit is only possible with a tour and a Local Navajo guide.
In this Antelope Canyon X review, I share my experience and photos from our visit, then I explain the best time to visit and everything you need to know before you go!
The best Antelope Canyon tours X
We booked our Antelope Canyon x Tour with GetYourGuide and we had an awesome experience. The price includes your entrance tickets and a Local Navajo guide. Everything has been clearly communicated by e-mail and you have a refund policy if you need to cancel in advance.
If you are coming from Las Vegas, you will also have a full-day trip to Antelope Canyon X and Horseshoe Bend, which includes pick-up and drop-off in Las Vegas. It’s more expensive and a long day trip, but it could be a good option if you’re in Vegas without your transportation and still want to see Antelope Canyon.
We have used GetYourGuide for many tours and activities around the world, and they are great. Highly recommended!
Antelope Canyon x Review: what to expect when visiting
The Antelope Canyon x Tour visits two beautiful different sections of Slot Canyon separated by a short sandy wash.
After a brief check-in at the company’s parking lot, we got into an air-conditioned van and drove through the desert for 10 or 15 minutes until the start of the canyon. The road was a bit bumpy, but nothing too bad.
To reach the mouth of Slot Canyon, follow your Guide and descend a wooden stairmatter for another 5 or 10 minutes. You will first be in the sun for a while, although there are places where you can stop and rest in the shade.
Immediately, we were impressed by the lack of crowds. Tours here have an almost private atmosphere. Our group had no more than 10 people and we only met one or two other small groups throughout our tour.
Antelope Canyon X is much less busy than the famous upper and lower Canyon, and we found it much easier to take photos without any other people inside.
Personally, I think the scenery at Antelope Canyon X is as good as what you see in the upper and lower canyons, and my wife agreed.
Just like the main canyons, Antelope X has magnificent winding alleys and beautiful pink and orange sandstone colors. It pretty much reminded me of Lower Antelope Canyon.
In total, we spent more than an hour in the Slot Canyon sections, and we were able to walk slowly and take a lot of photos while talking with the Navajo guide about the history of the canyon.
